Description

A not-yet-properly-introduced character in my Ace Attorney fanfic, Till the End of Time. Professor Veira is the head of the LAPD's Forensics Department, as well as a teacher of forensics at Ivy University every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. She cameoed in Turnabout Symphony but has yet to properly make a true appearance in the story. Think of this as a preview of her.

Before I discuss Veira's character, let's talk about her design. She was designed to look a little RPG-ish but still as if she were part of the Ace Attorney universe, which is mostly shown in her odd skirt-belt (it's actually got a zipper that you can see on her left hip). She wears black shorts under it. The innumerable pouches she wears (which do go all the way around her waist) are used to hold evidence, and each is actually locked with a tiny key she keeps around her neck. Like Edgeworth and Badd, she considers the safest place for evidence to be on her person. The pouch on her arm also holds evidence, but the smallest pocket on her costume, just below her skirt/belt's zipper, holds her wallet and ID wallet with her badge. Her gloves are specially designed to be repeatedly used and not contaminate evidence. There are only three things missing from the image because I couldn't work them in for one reason or another. First is the last pouch on her costume, which goes on her left thigh; her hand was in the way and I couldn't draw it without making the hand look a bit dodgy. The second is her lab coat, which I couldn't draw on and show off her outfit properly. Also it refused to be drawn. The last thing is the goggles she wears, which rest around her neck but I was having problems drawing them. Oh, and her ID badge she wears is based on the Japanese render of Bobby Fulbright's badge. It's the one with the barcode that gives her access to different rooms. The one in her ID Wallet doesn't have that ability and is based off the one used by Fulbright in the localised version of the game. The two symbols at the bottom of her badge (which I imagine are actually Kanji on Fulbright's badge that probably say "Male" and "Detective" or something) represent her department (green for forensics) and that she's able to work in the field (a picture of the black and gold badge worn by officers and detectives). She has green hair because that's just honestly how I designed her; unusual hair colours are pretty natural in the games so nyeh.

Veira has a venomous hatred for attorneys and detectives due to distrust (the story takes place post-Dual Destinies, though I do try to mention what happens in there as little as possible). The slight exception is Ema Skye, who she considers to be more competent than most of the officers who work under her. She doesn't trust her officers much, either, for that matter. She firmly believes that attorneys, both defending and prosecuting, will manipulate her precious evidence and she doesn't trust detectives to not do the exact same thing. Veira is something of a female Holmes in her work methods, doing things like throwing knives into ballistics gel dummies, and instead of taking to a skull, she talks to a creepy porcelain doll named Wadsworth. She often comes off as snooty and arrogant, but she has a prodigious skill in forensics. Veira is originally from Reading (though she grew up in Staines-upon-Thames, and speaks with an estuary English accent) before joining the Scotland Yard, then ending up in Los Angeles. Even though she despises field work, preferring to stay shut up in her lab, when a glitch puts her in the field, she goes. She doesn't mind in the end because she doesn't trust anyone with evidence but herself and will thus do evidence presenting if she was in the field (refusing the detectives, barring Ema Skye, to do so). She has a knack for knowing what evidence has been forged and finding information. She is regularly addressed as "the professor" in-universe.

Oh, and her name is a pun on Aloe Vera, which is green like her hair.

I've been using Winx bases because I can be more detailed with them than I can with pixel bases. The only problem I'm having is making the hair look good (this problem is prominent with ALL OF THEM). Hence why it's darker than I intended it to be. This is actually the "shadow" colour, except that part at the top which is part of the actual colour of her hair. I didn't used to have a problem with hair, but I'm way out of practice. Everything I drew on the base was done in MS Paint actually.

I love how her shoes turned out. I've never been able to draw shoes before, especially high heels, and these turned out right the first time I drew them in. It's just a pity the detailing is hard to see since everything's about the same shade of black. My least favourite is the wrinkles on her shirt and how flat the satchels are but both gave me trouble anyway. I've started four of the characters I've created now, but only Ilo's is done enough I'm ready to show it off.

Professor Veira stands at about 192cm (6'3 or so) without her shoes on and about 204cm (6'7) with them. Or simply, she's really tall.
